Pentacles · Knight
Knight of Pentacles
Slow reliable mile. Pursuit without theater: the job done, the rent paid, the body walked. Dull only to people who do not live in winters.
- ELEMENT
- earth
- NUMBER
- Court — pursue: the slow reliable mile. A horse that does not rear.
- MODE
- Pursue — the charge outward
- SYMBOLS
- a rider in a furrowed field, horse at a walk, disc held like a vow · trees and plowed earth, the landscape of patience · heavy armor, protection as pace · a gaze on the coin, not on a horizon of spectacle
UPRIGHT
- +steadfastness
- +a promise kept in small days
- +work as devotion
- −stubbornness as a horse you will not turn
- −slowness used to avoid a needed risk
- −duty that has no Sunday
- IN LOVE
- Loyalty, showing up, a courtship of errands. Romantic if you can see it. Say the feeling sometimes; the horse is not a speech.
- IN WORK
- The long project, the reliable colleague, the unglamorous excellence. Keep walking. Check you are not plowing a field you hate.
- IN SELF
- Your reliability is a gift. It is not the only virtue. Rest the horse.
REVERSED
The mile stalls, or it never varies — inertia, or a grind that has forgotten why the field was planted.
- Blocked — the upright current exists and is dammed.
- Excess — the current is overplayed.
Blocked Knight of Pentacles will not move. Excess Knight cannot stop. Shadow is rare; the failure is usually pace, not malice.
WHAT WE WILL NOT SAY ABOUT THIS PLATE
- a boring loyal man
- you're too slow
- just keep grinding
